Today I filled out a background check form to begin side hustle #2. I found out the results came back clear, as I knew they would. I will be working as an open house greeter for a realtor. I am hoping that I am able to start working for the real estate company as soon as this coming Saturday. It will be my second 1099 position, and I will be greeting guests at various open houses around the city where I live. I will work 3 out of 4 Saturdays (I have Saturdays and Sundays off), and I will earn $16.25 per hour, so $65 per 4 hour shift. All I will have to do is place and pick up signs, and greet people at the open house. I found this job on Craigslist. Easy!

My first side hustle, which I’ve been working at since May, 2016, is a part-time contract position working as an online librarian for a private for-profit college. I can complete all of the work from the comfort of my own home, which is perfect. It pays well, and although it is 1099, it is well within my skill set. I really enjoy my colleagues, and the work is interesting. I found this job on Indeed (actually they found my resume).

My main full-time job is for 37-40 hours per week. I have a very flexible schedule, and am able to come late if I have a doctor’s appointment, etc. I work as Librarian Resource Coordinator at another for-profit vocational school. It is a good job, for the most part. I get along with almost everyone (there’s always 1-2 people who you can’t stand though…oh well). I also found this job on Indeed.

When I lost my full-time well-paid position last January, 2016, it was scary. I  had to pay exorbitant amounts for COBRA for about 6 months. So that was really expensive. When I relocated and moved in with my boyfriend (now fiancée) 3 months later, it drastically cut my expenses. Even with all 3 of these jobs, I am still making about 9k less than I was at my previous full-time librarian position. But that’s okay. I’m learning new skills, and have started transforming this blog into something that will someday provide me with some meaningful freelance income. I am taking writing classes online with UC Berkeley Extension. I am growing. Sometimes success doesn’t always look what we think it should on the outside, but as long as I am saving, paying my bills, paying down debt, and giving back to the community, I am happy!

My last side hustle (if you can call it that), is writing for this blog. So far I have earned .22 cents from blogging. I have a very long way to go, but I am hopeful in the next few years I can increase my income, as passive income is wonderful!

Do you have any side hustles? How did you find them? I am curious what my readers do to earn extra income.
